Springtime is the ideal time to release excesses toxins and restore your essences. As the melting snow and rain are flowing from the mountains toward the sea, our bodies naturally want to release toxins that block our bodies’ energies. We do this through pre-purification methods that nourish and prepare the body to let go of accumulated toxins, followed by the purification methods themselves.

5 Elements Hair Care, the science of life and longevity, teaches that we are a microcosm of the greater macrocosm. As our environment and foods become more polluted, we become vulnerable to the effects of these toxins.

One way we can cleanse and protect ourselves is with the Spring Tonic. This cleansing and rejuvenation formula helps detox the body and restore balance and vitality throughout the year. Through proper detoxing methods, we can return to our true Selves, that is our wise, awake, inspired and sensual Self. Remember to always step out of your busy life and take time to truly nourish.

Morning Cleansing Tonic for Springtime

This is a drink I often suggest to clients as a morning cleanser and refresher. Many people find that they don’t require coffee after this to get their bowels moving!

In blender or juicer, combine:

1 peeled orange or grapefruit
1 peeled orange or grapefruit

1 peeled lemon or lime

2 inches fresh ginger root
2 inches fresh ginger root

2 inches fresh turmeric root
2 inches fresh turmeric root

1 cup water
1 cup water

If you’re using a juicer, go ahead and juice everything into a glass jar and put aside, to be stored in fridge. If using a blender, go ahead and blend everything well and strain into glass jar to be stored in fridge.
Blend in Blender
Strain from blender
Pour in Glass

This is enough for a 3-day supply. I recommend making it fresh approximately every 3 days. Upon waking up, after completing your morning rituals, heat 1 cup water. Stir in 1 Tbsp raw honey, 1 pinch sea salt and ½ cup of above juice mixture. Drink and enjoy!

* Excellent for Kapha balancing and ama (toxin) reducing. This combination is slightly heating so it may not be appropriate for Pitta individuals every morning. Vata can enjoy regularly. Follow up an hour or so later with your favorite morning tea and breakfast.

* Other benefits include: cleansing for the intestines and lymphatic system, weight reducing, anti-inflammatory, electrolyte balancing, rich in vitamin C.
