4 Tips to Improve Hair and Scalp Health
1. Stock Up on Real, Natural Hair ProductsAlways have (and have extra under your sink) organic shampoo and conditioner in your shower. Keeping an extra bottle under your sink will prevent you from running out and using poor quality drug store products. The last thing you want is to return to the chemicals after you’ve worked so hard on your journey to healthier hair.
2. Deep Condition with a MaskYou can do this weekly or bi-weekly, depending on the moisture your hair needs. My favorite thing to do it use organic ingredients I already have in my kitchen to concoct a moisturizing, healing mixture. Coconut oil mixed with a few drops of peppermint essential oil is my favorite, simple duo for the scalp. The coconut oil deeply nourishes and moisturizes the scalp while the peppermint essential oil helps stimulate hair roots to promote natural growth. Don’t want to make your own? The Euro Natural Oil is a great deep conditioning hair mask!
3. Brush & Massage Your Scalp & Hair
Brush your hair thoroughly at least once a day. Don’t forget to focus on the scalp! As an active gal, its very easy for me to get complacent with grooming and resorting to throwing my hair up in a bun—as a way to avoid brushing my long hair. This is a bad routine to get into if it causes you to neglect brushing your hair. Brushing helps do more than the obvious detangling and vanity job, it also stimulates your hair follicles and helps keep your scalp free of build up and dry skin. When brushing hair, always start at the ends of hair and get tangles out first. This is an important habit to get into because it will prevent breakage and split ends.
4. Avoid Heat & Air DryDepending on your normal schedule and routine, you might not have time to let your hair air dry and pass on the styling. However, doing this several times a week, if not more, will help minimize the damage done to your hair by all of this heat and stress on your tresses.
Having healthy hair doesn’t happen overnight. What you can do, though, is start right now and implement healthy habits for your hair and scalp. This will get you on the road to your most beautiful, strong, and vibrant hair.
